At TheatreWorks we take our students welfare very seriously and endeavour to provide high quality training in a positive and nurturing environment. To help with this process we have developed various policies that outline our commitment to our students, parent/guardians and also our expectations of all those involved with TheatreWorks. Upon joining the school links are sent to all parents/guardians to read and digitally sign.
Along with our 'open door' policy that allows us to form established and strong relationships with our parents, we also have a designated 'Safeguarding Officer'.
We are committed to providing a environment in which all of our students have a safe and positive experience. As part of this, we follow the NSPCC guidelines by having an appointed volunteer Safeguarding Officer – Emma Griffin - who has been in place since our launch last year. In accordance with best practice, Emma does not hold any other position in the school. This allows her to act impartially with the students at the centre of all decision making.Emma holds the necessary skills and experience to hold this position. She has over 15 years’ experience working at a senior management level in national governing bodies of sport – for the last nine years at England’s largest participation sport. In addition she served for over six years as Vice Chair and Local Authority appointed Governor at a large primary school, during which time she acted as Health & Safety and Safeguarding lead. She holds a NEBOSH qualification in Health & Safety, has attended NSPCC training and has an enhanced DBS certificate. For the last seven years she has been a licenced chaperone with the local authority and has chaperoned at a large number of productions at the Nottingham Theatre Royal, DeMontfort Hall, Loughborough Town Hall and the Haymarket Theatre. All parents receive a copy of our Safeguarding Policy on enrolment including Emma’s direct contact details. She can be contacted directly by parents with any concerns in this area.We feel very privileged to have Emma as our Safeguarding Officer and thank her for her continued support and advice.
